Ok, so this is the last set of photos we have of the ride. Well, except for the ones from the naked afterparty over at that supermodel’s place…..

The Filthy Landlubbers are trading in their sails for bikes and heading inland this Saturday January 28th. Starting at Breakwater Brewing 11am (101 North Coast Highway, Oceanside, CA).
If you haven’t paid or registered, feel free to show up a little early and register/pay ($35) at Breakwater. If you have paid, just your email address and name will do. Please have a valid ID and helmet. This will be an almost 40 mile ride and the various breweries will require helmets and ID’s to serve you. Ok maybe not helmets, but please wear one anyway. A cell phone, some cash, snacks, a buddy, spare tubes, a pump – any and all the various things that you are responsible for, please be mindful of. You will get a wristband, a ticket for a beer at Lost Abbey, and a shirt (if you’d rather the shirt can be picked up at the end at Pizza Port)
We will have printed maps, and directions, although you can print it out ahead of time here:
Each brewery will be run a little differently. The skinny: One beer at each place, half or full pints of the lower ABV persuasion. If you want to upgrade most places will offer that to you for a buck or two – be safe. Food will be provided at both Oceanside Ale Works, and Pizza Port Carlsbad.
Breakwater 11am, Leave at 11:30 – pitchers to pour into half pints. Show your ID, grab a glass and pour.
Oceanside Ale Works, Leave 12:40 – growlers to pour into half/full pints, and grilled cheese sandwiches. We recommend checking in with the guys when you show for a sandwich, and grab a beer while you wait.
Mother Earth, Leave 1:50 – Half pints, poured over the bar. Pick your poison err beer. Get in line.
Lost Abbey, Leave 2:55 – 1 drink ticket good for a pint of lower ABV stuff.
Iron Fist, Leave 3:50 – New addition, looks like it could be busy. Half pints over the bar.
Pizza Port Carlsbad – Park in the beer garden behind the bottle shop (just west of the main pub). There will be a bunch of 1 topping pizzas, some veggie some meat, as well as a keg of free-for-all beer.

“Keelhaul that filthy landlubber send him down to the depths below
Make that bastard walk the plank with a bottle of rum and a Yo-Ho-Ho”
Saturday the 17th was a perfect day for a visit to a few local Microbreweries, so We did! At each of our destinations Saturday, we made positive contact with the owners and I’m proud to announce they’re all supportive of our ride, and look forward to the event with open arms. There are some minor changes in the route this year, The operators of the old Green Flash Brewery are not yet up and running, BUT we will be stopping at Iron Fist Brewery, after Lost Abbey, before the Bottleshop end.
Saturday morning, we met up at Breakwater Brewing Co. in Oceanside. After a good talk with our friend Billy there, our spirits rose in anticipation of the real event, just about a month from now.

We breakfasted on fine ale to celebrate our 2nd Annnual Filthy Landlubber ride, then were off to the next stop, Oceanside Ale Works (OAW). The ride south then eastward was hassle free, everyone arrived in one piece ready to partake.
I got the strong Pale Ale hay had on tap. Dry, but not hoppy, this one hit the spot for me. Amber at OAW was gracious in Her interest in our ride and is looking forward to the Filthy Landlubbers inundating their Brewery.
In addition, Our ride just happens to be scheduled for the same date that OAW is celebrating the release of their Annual winter ale,has now fenced in their back lot, so we’ll just have to hang out a little nearer to the inside. Good news! Looks like we might have some Grilled cheese technicians on hand for snacks, so bring your tips for these guys and let ‘em know you’ love cheese and beer!
Our next destination was out Melrose ave and southward across Vista to Mother Earth Brew Co.
Yet another good stop, it seems as Mother Earth is stepping up operations significantly. Four new, large conicals have been installed as well as a much larger Mash tun. Again, the beer gods must have their eyes on us. We were once again greeted with open arms in strong support of bringing a bunch of cyclists out to Mother Earth. The back area outside is a great place to store all the bikes and there might even be popcorn to munch on.
Watching the Sun dance around the clouds and start to head for the horizon, the available daylight hours we’re quickly escaping. Time for the ‘Lubbers to head to the Lost Abbey. Still two destinations before hitting the bottleshop in Carlsbad! There was a Bistro-style catering truck at Lost Abbey, but their future schedule is unknown.

After a beautiful French-style Farmhouse Ale, we headed out for the final stop before Hitting the coastline for a race to the bottleshop against sundown.
Roughly half way between Lost Abbey and our Carlsbad Finishline, was Iron Fist Brewing Company. Now a little more than a year at its present location; 1305 Hot Springs Way, #101 in Vista, this was the most crowded location of the afternoon!
As can be seen in their menu, Iron Fist likes to make a variety of Belgian-style ales. I was lucky to speak with Melody, one of the owners of this brewery. She also was excited to host our riders! There was a good smelling BBQ vendor there, large chunks of animal, roasting slowly over a huge grill. Recent update: As of Friday, January 30th, looks like there might be a stone hearth oven Pizza guy there! As well, I had to leave Melody another stack of flyers. She said they were all given out! With the clouds now filling most of the sky, we began to wonder about the amount of sunlight left, and the rider’s distance to the bottleshop. We said our goodbyes and the riders sprinted for the coast, chasing what was left of the sunlight.

So, we all made it to the end by sundown. There will be a bit more available daylight the day of the ride, but we will still have to be mindful of not losing focus on our timing. Lagging at any of our stops on this ride will end up in riding in the dark!

Sean and I have practiced and think you all should know that there is a limit to the number of bikes allowed on each train car. We’ve found its limited mainly by the mood of the conductor that morning and our manners. Officially, its 4 bikes/car, but has been stretched beyond that in the past.
We think that the nicer we are that morning, the easier its going to be getting all you filthy buggers on the trains northbound. So, get to the train stations early, buy tix BEFORE the last minute, and be nice to the conductor man.

Alrightey, we’re in the initial stages of this whole process, so check back here soon for updates.
We will be using Paypal. So, now is the time to get an account, or find a friend who has one.
